Types of backlinks, there are two types of backlinks, do follow and No follow. 

People reading a web page will never see the difference between do follow and No follow backlinks. The difference is in the source code. There is a specific tag in the source code that determines how Google and other search engines view a backlink, which also determines the impact of that backlink on your SEO profile.

Do follow is simply telling Google and other search engines that “the content on the other end of this link is important and should be noted.”

No Follow

No, Follow backlinks are less common. They are also less expensive. Google’s official definition of the No Follows tag is” No Follow ‘which provides a way for webmasters to tell search engines to ‘do not follow links on this page ‘.’

The HTML markup for these links is similar to DO FOLLOW links, with one major difference –the “rel =NO FOLLOW” tag. If we use a NO FOLLOW link in our example above, it will look like this.

The percentage of DO FOLLOW vs. No FOLLOW links that a website has will vary. Google likes to see a good mix of both for a healthy link profile.

 The biggest difference between these two types of links is that Google puts a lot of value on DO-FOLLOW links- which means they’re great for SEO. On the other hand, NO FOLLOW links are ignored by Google’s Algorithm in most cases. This means they are rarely valuable for SEO.

Even though NO FOLLOW links are less common than DO FOLLOW links, there are still plenty of places on the internet to get NO FOLLOW links. You will often find these types of a backlink from websites where you can upload your links and content, as those websites do not want to guarantee the accuracy of your content.

Here are some places where NOFOLLOW links usually come from.

  • Blog Comments
  • Forums, such as Reedit
  • Press Release

In addition to all of this, many high authority websites, such as Wikipedia and the Huffington Post, use No follow links to reduce the number of spam backlinks request they receive.

Surprisingly, NO Follow backlinks provide some SEO value. 

Google’s official stance on NO Follow links is, “In general does not follow NO Follow them.” This means that Google does not follow NO Follow links most of the time, but there are some situations in which Google does follow links. That’s why the SEO community has done a lot of research to identify a few examples of when NO Follow links are followed.

For the most part, you will want to use DO FOLLOW links when linking to other websites from your websites. As long as you’re linking to valuable resources that help your readers, there’s no reason not to use a Do-Follow link.

If for whatever reason, you’re linking to several low-quality websites, you might want to consider using the NO Follow tag so Google doesn’t think you’re linking to those low- quality websites. Accuracy is guaranteed.

This is not the only reason you would use the NO Follow tag. According to Google, there are three other situations in which you may want to use NO Follow links.
